Do I need a visa to visit Egypt?

Most travelers need a visa to visit Egypt, but you can usually get one online before you fly or on arrival at the airport. As of September 2026, the e-visa is approved through Egypt's official government portal within a few business days, so it's worth applying at least a week before you travel rather than relying on arrival visas alone.

Citizens of a small number of countries must apply in person at an Egyptian consulate instead, and a few nationalities can enter visa-free for short stays. This depends on your passport, not on the trip you book, so check your own country's requirement directly with Egypt's consulate or embassy.

What this does not cover: business or work visas, and multiple-entry visas if you plan a side trip outside Egypt during your stay — ask your consulate about those separately.

Bring a printed or downloaded copy of your e-visa approval and a passport valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates.
