Is Egypt safe for tourists?

Egypt is generally safe for tourists, and its main tourist areas — Cairo, Giza, Luxor, Aswan and the Red Sea coast — see millions of visitors every year with dedicated tourist police and well-established routes. As of September 2026, standard travel precautions (watching belongings in crowded markets, using licensed transport, staying aware in traffic) are the main things to keep in mind, the same as in any major destination.

We work only with vetted local guides and drivers, and our itineraries stick to established, well-traveled routes rather than areas your home country's foreign ministry advises against. Excursions like desert camping or Red Sea boat trips run through licensed operators and depend on weather and permit conditions on the day.

What this does not cover: official government travel advisories, which can change — always check your own country's current guidance before you book and again shortly before you travel.
